Logbook

The following guidelines outline the requirements for maintaining a logbook

Ownership and Location:

  • All logbooks are property of the research group and remain at the research group Clausthal at all times.

  • After your period at SWZ, logbooks are kept by your supervisor.

  • In the future, numbered registered logbooks will be implemented.

Content:

  • Document the goals of each implementation/simulation session, including sample used, equipment/protocol choice, and any deviations from standard procedures.

  • Note down the time, filename, and conditions of each simulations, including any anomalies or uncertainties.

  • Add temporary conclusions, calculations, and consistency checks made during simulations sessions.

  • Clearly distinguish between factual observations and ad hoc conclusions/interpretations.

  • Tabulate data obtained from digital meters or other devices, specifying units and measurement device.

Data Storage and Analysis:

  • Typed-in data should be pasted or stapled into the logbook, not left as loose leaves.

  • After each session, write a summary including the procedure followed, data storage location, notable observations, confidence in the data, and its contribution to the research goals.

Data Processing and Analysis:

  • Label them with the data filename and processing script/project name.

  • Describe data analysis methods briefly in the logbook.

  • Paste equipment specifications, input, and outputs into the logbook as needed.
